Digitanimal Project: Blockchain Innovation in Livestock Farming

The Community of Madrid finances, through its program of aid for SMEs and startups that use Blockchain technology, the project of the Madrid-based company Digitanimal, to improve the way extensive livestock farming is controlled.

In this case, Digitanimal, an innovative SME in the livestock sector, stands out for implementing GPS devices that have contributed to improving the care, health and quality of life of the animals, optimizing time and reducing costs.

Project Origin and Funding

This SME was founded in 2015 by a family of livestock farmers with more than 40 years of experience. At the time they faced a problem: calvings were being complicated and there was a significant risk of losing a good part of their animals. With this reality in mind, Digitanimal thought of a solution: allow the permanent monitoring of livestock by means of a GPS device.

Especially, this example aims to serve as an inspiration to other SMEs in the livestock sector that are considering incorporating electronic devices and technologies to improve their management and animal welfare.

Furthermore, the Startup Digitanimal is one of those receiving the aid that the Community of Madrid has granted to develop innovative solutions based on Blockchain technology. Thanks to the support of the Regional Government, these companies will carry out projects aimed at solving real challenges in key sectors such as cybersecurity, finance, education, health or freight transport.

Therefore, this line of grants was launched by the Ministry of Digitalization at the beginning of 2025 with the main objective of promoting the use of emerging technologies among the region’s industrial fabric, putting a particular emphasis on the adoption of Blockchain technology.

The program has had a total investment of 2 million euros, financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, through the European Union funds – Next Generation EU.

Similarly, this initiative is part of the strategy of the Autonomous Executive to accelerate the digital transformation of the Madrid business ecosystem, promoting the adoption of emerging technologies with high economic and social impact, as is the case of Blockchain, key to improving traceability, security and efficiency in various sectors.

Technology behind Digitanimal

This Startup, which has received almost 100,000 euros from the Regional Government, has created a unique technology that allows monitoring animals in real time through devices connected to the Internet. These collect data on their location, activity and health, which are then analyzed with advanced algorithms. Everything is recorded securely and unalterably thanks to Blockchain technology. In this way, people have more control over their information and decide when and with whom they want to share it.

Information about the GPS system and the collar

At Digitanimal they have created and developed an advanced GPS system to locate and monitor livestock, which will allow you to enjoy absolute peace of mind with your animals.

This system, integrated by a GPS collar and a mobile application, facilitates the efficient and secure management of your animals allowing you to know their location in real time, daily activity and detect unusual behaviors.

The tracker has a shape that easily adjusts to the neck of your animals, without affecting their movements. They have a lightweight device weighing 295 grams, and measuring 11.25 x 8 x 5 cm.
